DIY Denim shorts

Most summers I find myself peeling my jeans or leggings off of my legs by the end of the day. Too gross? Well, c’mon now let’s be honest, I can’t imagine I'm the only one out there with this dilemma. Not this year though! I’ve planned well in advance the perfect recipe for my go to summer shorts. 

I don't know about you guys, but I pretty much always seem to struggle with finding the right pair of denim cut offs for myself. Sure, there may have been a few lucky finds over the years but overall there haven't been too many denim fish in the sea for me. I convinced myself that I just wasn’t a shorts person. But c’mon who gets to choose who is and isn't made for certain clothing? The answer is NOBODY! 

I realized that in self labeling my body as not being the right type to pull off shorts, I turned away so many opportunities to feel confident and comfortable on some of those unbearably hot So Cal days! I was so excited when I realized that I could not only repurpose my old favorite pair of denim but also customize the perfect pair of shorts for myself. That's right, my old reliables that died a tragic death by wine stain weren’t as far gone as they appeared! In repurposing my old denim, I was able to find that I can cut the perfect length and curve for my body type that truly allows me to feel confident and comfortable all day long! 

Now that being said, let’s get back to those wine stained jeans I was talking about. My favorite pair of J Brand denim was purchased at The Closet about a little over a year ago. It had the perfect stretch, the impeccable placed distressed knee tear, truly a fine specimen of premium denim. 

A few months back these beauties didn’t make it through, what would be their final, girls night out. One splash of red wine later and they were done for. Crossed out of my closet for good. Until now that is! I find it truly amazing that not only did they find a second life in my closet from being given away by their original owners, but they managed to come back again for their third life as a pair of shorts. This kind of repurposing and resourceful use of our clothing is so great for our creativity, wallet, and the environment!
